The New River is a tributary of the Kanawha River and one of the oldest rivers in the world. The river flows for approximately 320 miles through West Virginia, Virginia, and North Carolina. It is formed by the confluence of the South Fork of the New River and North Fork of the New River in Ashe County where it then moves on to Alleghany County and then into Virginia. Its peculiar flow leads many to believe its sparkling waters preceded the formation of much of the surrounding landscape.
Ashe County
In Ashe County, it flows for more than 26 miles and creates some of the best trout fishing areas in the state! The residents of the area spend lots of time on the river in the warmer months, enjoying activities such as rafting and tubing, fishing and camping along its pristine banks. There are many new developments and communities cropping up right along the lands that surround the majestic river, and you can find homes, cabins, and other types of riverfront real estate in my listings.
